LinkedIn shows roughly the first 210 characters before the “see more” fold, so put the hook in the first two lines.

What Is a LinkedIn Text Formatter?

A LinkedIn text formatter turns plain or markdown text into a post with bold, italic, bullets and clean spacing that LinkedIn will actually display, because LinkedIn posts do not support rich formatting of their own. The bold and italic parts are converted to Unicode characters, the same trick every bold text copy paste tool uses, while lists and headings are rewritten with bullets and line breaks.

Write the post in markdown on the left; the right side shows the LinkedIn-ready text, a LinkedIn character counter and a preview card that looks like the feed.

How to Format a LinkedIn Post

  1. Paste or write your post in markdown: **bold**, *italic*, - bullets, 1. numbered, ## headings.
  2. Check the preview card. Everything after the “see more” marker is hidden in the feed until someone clicks.
  3. Watch the counter: LinkedIn stops accepting text at 3,000 characters.
  4. Press Copy post and paste into LinkedIn. The formatting is part of the text, so nothing is lost.

LinkedIn Post Formatter Limits Worth Knowing

Posts allow 3,000 characters, comments 1,250, the profile headline 220 and the About section 2,600. The feed collapses a post after about 210 characters on desktop and fewer on mobile, so the first two lines carry the post. Hashtags count toward the limit; three to five is typical.

Unicode bold is not searchable, and screen readers may read it letter by letter. A LinkedIn post formatter is best used for a headline and a few emphasised phrases rather than whole paragraphs.

Why Use This LinkedIn Text Formatter

Drafting in markdown means you can keep one source for a blog post, a newsletter and LinkedIn, and convert the LinkedIn version here in a second. The counter and the see-more fold are on the same screen as the text, everything runs in your browser, and there is no login. When you need a thread instead of a single post, the thread maker linked below splits the same markdown into numbered posts; this LinkedIn text formatter handles the single-post case.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make bold text on LinkedIn?

LinkedIn has no bold button for posts, so a LinkedIn text formatter replaces letters with Unicode bold characters that look bold anywhere. Write **like this** in the input, copy the output and paste it into the post box. The LinkedIn bold text is real characters, so it stays bold after posting.

What is the LinkedIn character limit for posts?

A LinkedIn post can be up to 3,000 characters. The counter above the output turns red when you pass it. Comments are limited to 1,250 characters and the headline in your profile to 220.

Where does LinkedIn cut the post with “see more”?

On desktop the feed shows roughly the first 210 characters, or the first three lines, before the “…see more” link. The preview card marks that fold so you can put the hook in the opening lines.

Does bold text copy paste hurt reach or accessibility?

Unicode letters are not indexed as normal words by LinkedIn search, and screen readers may read them letter by letter. Use them for a headline or a few key phrases, and keep the body of the post in plain text.

Can I add bullet points and headings?

Yes. Markdown lists become • bullets or numbered lines, and headings become bold lines. Links are written as “text: url” because LinkedIn shows the raw URL anyway. Blank lines are preserved so the spacing you see in the preview is what you get.
